Kalikara

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 9, 2026

1. Who we are

Kalikara ("Kalikara," "we," "us," "our") is operated by Katherine Anne Kaplan, trading as Kalikara. We are the data controller for personal information collected through kalikara.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, how it is used and shared, and the rights you have over your information. You can reach us about anything in this policy at info@kalikara.com.

2. Information we Collect

Information you give us directly. When you submit a 1:1 session or pilgrimage application, we collect your name, email address, general location, the offering you are applying for, and your written answers — including what is calling you to the work, your healing intentions, whether you have received energy healing before, and, for pilgrimages, confirmation of your physical capability for hiking and time outdoors. When you join our newsletter, we collect your email address. When you email or message us, we collect the contents of that correspondence.

A note on sensitive information. Application answers may include information about your emotional life, wellbeing, or health that you choose to share. We ask only what is needed to hold the work safely, and by submitting an application you consent to us processing what you choose to include. Please share only what feels right — every open question can be answered as briefly as you wish. This information is read only by Katherine and is never used for marketing or shared for any purpose other than delivering the Services.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, the Site (hosted on Shopify) automatically collects certain technical data when you visit — such as IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and referring links — through cookies and similar technologies. See Section 6.

3. How we Use your Information

We use your information to review applications and communicate with you about them; to deliver, schedule, and hold sessions, mentorship containers, and pilgrimages; to process payments and maintain booking records; to send our newsletter to those who have subscribed; to respond to your enquiries; to operate, secure, and improve the Site; and to comply with legal obligations such as tax and accounting requirements.

Where data protection law (including the EU/UK GDPR) applies, our legal bases are: performance of a contract (delivering Services you have applied or booked for), consent (newsletter subscriptions, and any sensitive information you choose to include in applications), legitimate interests (running and protecting our business and Site), and legal obligation (records we are required to keep). You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing that occurred before withdrawal.

4. How we Share your Information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share application content for marketing. We share information only with service providers who help us operate, under their own safeguards: Shopify (website hosting, forms, and customer records), Intuit Mailchimp (newsletter delivery, for subscribers), our payment processors (payment details are handled by them directly — we never see or store full card numbers), and our email provider (for correspondence). For pilgrimages, we share only the minimum necessary details (such as names for room reservations) with accommodations and, where relevant, transport providers. We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect rights and safety.

5. International Transfers

We work with clients worldwide, and our service providers (including Shopify and Mailchimp) may store or process data in countries outside your own, including the United States. Where information is transferred out of the EEA or UK, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the providers' standard contractual clauses and data protection frameworks.

6. Cookies

The Site uses cookies and similar technologies set by Shopify (necessary for the Site to function and for basic analytics) and, if enabled, by Mailchimp's site tracking (to connect site activity with newsletter subscribers). You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling necessary cookies may affect how the Site works. Where required by law, non-essential cookies are used only with your consent.

7. How long we Keep Information

We keep application and booking information for as long as needed to deliver the Services and maintain a reasonable record of our work together, and financial records for as long as tax law requires. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe. Applications that do not lead to a booking are deleted or anonymised within 24 months. You may request earlier deletion at any time (Section 8).

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access a copy of your personal information; to correct it; to have it deleted; to restrict or object to its processing; to receive it in a portable format; and to withdraw consent. EU/UK residents also have the right to lodge a complaint with their data protection authority — in Ireland, the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie). California residents have equivalent rights under the CCPA/CPRA, and we do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it. To exercise any right, email info@kalikara.com; we will respond within the time required by applicable law. Every newsletter also contains a one-click unsubscribe link.

9. Children

The Site and Services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including relying on Shopify's secured infrastructure and limiting access to application content to Katherine alone. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect what you entrust to us as carefully as we hold the work itself.

11. Third-party Links

The Site links to third-party websites — including kamethod.com, kalikaracrystals.com, Instagram, and Amazon — each governed by its own privacy policy. We are not responsible for their practices.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this policy from time to time; the current version will always be published on the Site with its "last updated" date. Material changes will be highlighted on the Site or, for subscribers, by email.
